Conference Policies
When you check in, you will receive a conference package with a name badge. It is very important that you remember your badge as it is required for entrance to the sessions. If you lose your badge it can be replaced for a small fee. You must wear your badge at all times during the Conference.
What to Wear & Bring:
Attendees generally wear business casual or casual attire. You may want to bring along a light jacket or sweater, as the temperature in meeting rooms is often difficult to control. During the day, you will be moving throughout the hotel, which is a large facility. For your convenience, please wear comfortable walking shoes. We will not have a bag check, so be sure to travel light. You will receive a conference bag once you arrive for all of your program materials.
Due to The Westin Bonaventure’s green policies water coolers will be placed in the back of meeting rooms and in the foyer of large meeting rooms.
Security:
For the enjoyment of all participants, inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and violators will be removed from the premises.
Do not leave personal items or conference bags unattended anywhere in the convention center, including the foyer.
Please note that for the security of conference attendees, the The Westin Bonaventure has security cameras located throughout the facility.
Smoking:
Hotel: The Westin Bonaventure is a non-smoking hotel. There are designated smoking areas outside of the building and on the 4th floor on the plaza pool deck. Smoking is prohibited inside sleeping rooms. Individuals found smoking in sleeping rooms may be assessed with a charge for deep cleaning the room.
Public Places: In July 2002, the City banned smoking within 25 feet of playground equipment, bleachers, backstops, sports courts and fields, and picnic areas. In June 2004, the City further banned smoking on City beaches.
Outdoor Dining: The City of Los Angeles recently passed a new Outdoor Dining No-Smoking Ordinance that became effective on March 8, 2010 with a public education period that will take place from March 8, 2010 to March 7, 2011. The no smoking provisions take effect on March 8, 2011.
During the year of public education, businesses are required to post a notice about the new law at their place of business. More information about the ban and notice signage can be found at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Tobacco Control and Prevention Program site at http://www.lapublichealth.org/tob/ .
Medical Marijuana:
Through the California Compassionate Use Act 1996, also known as Proposition 215, qualified patients, and / or their primary caregivers, may possess limited amounts of medical marijuana. Please note that California does not recognize medical marijuana cardholders from other states. Therefore, if an out of state patient attends the conference they will a) not have any legal protection and b) will be unable to access the state-licensed cannabis production facilities.
Substance Use:
We recognize that everyone at the conference is working to change drug-related laws and might have differing philosophies regarding drug use than the current administration. However, please remember that most drug use is illegal and we must respect the laws of the community we are in.
Photo / Recording Waiver:
There may be photography, audio or video recording at the conference. By entering the event premises you give consent to the use of your photograph, likeness or video or audio recording in whole or in part without restriction or limitation for any educational, promotional, or any purpose for distribution in Drug Policy Alliance online and printed publications or any publication in other media and release DPA, their officers and employees, and each and all persons involved from any liability connected with the taking, recording, digitizing or publication of interviews, photographs, computer images, video and/or sound recordings.
